About Caitlin Margolien

I am a recent graduate of High Point University, class of 2012, with a BA in Technical Theatre! During my full educate at HPU I put most of my time in the department into the costume shop. I have loved everything there is to possibly love about theatre since I was a wee-one in middle school and I carry a child-like wonder about theatre with me where ever I go. As such, with my professor and mentor, Ami Shupe, we created a course called "Anime Costume Technology," where students were tasked with rebuilding costumes from a favorite movie or TV series. Costuming from an original source is known to hobbyists of the type as "cosplay," and I was thrilled to get to do one of my favorite down-time things for class!​

Before attending college, I was self-taught in sewing and craft and to this day I use a very "by any means necessary" approach to creating the most interesting and gravity defying costumes and props. I am also self-taught in wig styling and dying, and I look forward to having the opportunity to expand my knowledge and understanding of manipulating the wig fiber in the future. I take any chance I get!

At High Point University, I was given the opportunity to take a wide selection of classes inside and out of the department. Some of my most memorable experiences were in: American Musical History, scenic painting, Asian Religions, History of World War II (my final paper was on costume accuracy of movies to the period!), and AutoCAD! Thanks to Ami Shupe, I was also given the opportunity to be an assistant teacher to her costume crafts class where I assisted students in learning how to use a sewing machine, hand stitching technique, pattern comprehension, and costume building technique. I hope one day to be so lucky as to be able to enrich others in the same way that I have been enriched by my professors.​

While at HPU, I also was appointed costume shop supervisor, twice, as well as head of wardrobe and first hand.
